Healthy Living
Healthy living is for all, whether you are a child, a teenager, an adult or a senior.
The Healthy Living Committee is there to assist you, in developing the knowledge and the skills and obtaining the resources to support your overall health and reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases.
We offer activities, based on, the interests and needs of the citizens of Tantramar. For your immediate information, browse our links of a wide variety of healthy living sites.
What would help you adopt healthier habits?
Please tell us what programs or services you or your family would like to see in Tantramar. Would you benefit by:
- Healthy Eating?
- Self Esteem or Assertiveness Course?
- If you are a coach, Sports Nutrition?
- Smoking Cessation Course?
- Problems with budgeting?
The Healthy Living Committee of the Tantramar Family Resource Centre is there for you. Tell us what you need to be healthy while living in Tantramar.
Want to get more physically active?
Physical activity does not have to involve any formal program or any expensive equipment.
- One idea is The Tantramar Outdoor Club. See when the next ski or run is so you can meet people while being physically active. The Tantramar Outdoor Club also has a used equipment list on their website.
- The Tantramar area has walking, Nordic walking and biking opportunities on the Trans-Canada trail from Sackville to the Cape and waterfowl trails in Sackville and Baie Verte.
- Murray Beach Provincial Park offers great opportunities to walk on the beach in the summer and early fall.
- Go hiking or cross-country skiing on the trails in Beech Hill Park or off of Walker Road across from the water reservoir gate.
- Indoor walking is also possible at the Sackville Hospital and the Dorchester School gym (contact VON Sackville for the walking club).
- If you are a senior, Mount Allison offers free membership to their pool, gym and fitness centre (exercise equipment with trainers and a variety of courses).
Are you pregnant?
